Plastic Surgery in DeSoto, TX

Some things in life are simply inevitable, like getting older. As we age, things begin to change in our lives. We learn to let things go and to smile more. We have more financial freedom to do things and see things that we've wanted to see and do for years. But on the flip side of the coin, our bodies begin to change, too. Breasts start to sag a little more than they did in years past. More fat starts to make itself known around your midsection, neck, arms, and stomach.

Wrinkles and fine lines start to become more pronounced. In the past, we were taught to just deal with the signs of aging. But in modern times, there are safe, innovative ways to recapture the incomparable feeling of youth. If you're getting more and more self-conscious about how you look, it could be time to work with a plastic surgeon in DeSoto, TX, like Dr. Mark Bishara of Paragon Plastic Surgery.

Body Contouring: Lifting Loose Skin After Substantial Weight Loss

Shape

The obesity epidemic in the United States and worldwide has prompted numerous programs aimed at reducing Body Mass Index (BMI) for individuals' well-being. However, substantial weight loss cannot disregard real-world physics. As a result of weight loss, bodily components such as skin and fat deposits undergo significant changes in tension and size, which may not adjust accordingly. Bariatric weight loss surgery has helped many people achieve their BMI goals and lead healthier lives, but it has also increased the need for body contouring following weight loss. If you made the choice to get healthy and lose weight but are left with unattractive and frustrating loose skin, it could be time to speak with a plastic surgeon in DeSoto, TX.

The goal of body contouring is to remove excess skin for both cosmetic and functional reasons. Large hanging skin folds can be considered unappealing from an aesthetic standpoint, and frequent chafing between functional and excess skin can make daily activities uncomfortable, potentially leading to skin infections. Additionally, moisture trapped between loose skin folds can create an ideal environment for bacterial growth, posing hygiene issues for the patient.

While it's feasible to perform a full body lift in one session, most doctors prefer to divide body contouring surgeries into multiple sessions for the patient's safety and comfort. At Paragon Plastic Surgery, our body contouring procedures are split up into a few of the most common areas on which we operate, including:

Breast lifts reshape your breasts and reposition your areolas by removing excess skin below the breasts and moving the nipples higher. The skin above your breasts is also adjusted to create a more youthful contour. This surgery can also be combined with breast augmentation to fill any volume loss, and the areolas can be resized if needed.

 Aesthetic Treatments DeSoto, TX

The arm lift procedure aims to achieve a more youthful appearance by removing excess fat and skin from your underarms. This is common in women but can also occur in men after significant weight loss. The incision is made beneath your arm and may extend from the elbow to the armpit, depending on the amount of skin that needs to be removed. Most patients are satisfied with the results and consider the trade-off of "skin for scars" worthwhile, especially when the scars are effectively concealed by your plastic surgeon in city, state.

 Facial Rejuvenation DeSoto, TX

A lower body lift includes a thigh lift, and a buttock lift to remove excess skin. The thigh lift is like an arm lift, with incisions made based on the location of excess skin. The buttock lift doesn't involve implants, but fat from other areas can be used to enhance the shape. Overall, the skin cutting and repositioning performed by Dr. Bishara is safe and provides welcome results after bariatric surgery or extreme weight loss.

 Body Contouring DeSoto, TX

A tummy tuck is a surgical procedure that involves tightening your abdominal walls and removing excess skin to create a flatter abdomen. The surgery is typically performed under either local or general anesthesia. It begins with an incision along the bikini line and the removal of the belly button. After the abdominal wall is tightened, the excess skin is pulled down, and a new belly button is created. This procedure is moderately invasive, and it usually takes about two to three weeks before patients can resume exercising.

Face Lifts and Implants: Reclaiming a More Youthful "You"

Shape

In today's day and age, aesthetic impressions matter more than at any other time in history. Whether we're meeting a new person or reconvening with an old friend, one of the first places we look is at their face. When a person has sunken cheeks, deep wrinkles, and drooping foreheads, we tend to think they're angry or disheveled. If you're worried about unattractive features on your face that affect your daily life, you're not alone. Millions of men and women around the U.S. aren't happy with features like thin lips and frown lines.

By working with a plastic surgeon in city, state, like Dr. Bishara at Paragon Plastic Surgery, you can reclaim a more youthful you with the safe and effective procedures below.

Brow and Eyelid lifts can rejuvenate sagging or wrinkled foreheads, giving you a more relaxed and youthful appearance. By using either traditional or minimally invasive techniques, the muscles above the eyes are adjusted to smooth out lines and lift the eyebrows. This procedure is often combined with others to enhance the overall look of your eyes.

Full cheeks play a significant role in how we perceive a person's face, whether we realize it or not. Cheek implants can have a big impact on your self-confidence, especially if your cheeks have thinned due to aging, illness, or other reasons. The sizes and shapes of the implants we use are customized to fit your desired appearance, giving you a personalized experience and look.

Reshaping your chin with implants can help create a more balanced appearance with your other facial features. Chin enhancement is commonly suggested for individuals getting rhinoplasty to achieve better facial harmony, as the size of the chin can either accentuate or diminish the apparent size of the nose and vice versa.

A facelift can reverse the effects of aging, gravity, sun exposure, and stress by eliminating fat, tightening skin and muscles, and giving your face a rejuvenated, more youthful appearance. Many of our patients report looking 10 to 15 years younger after undergoing a facelift performed by a plastic surgeon in city, state from Paragon Plastic Surgery.

A neck lift is a surgical procedure that can smooth and tighten the skin on your neck to provide a more toned and youthful appearance. This procedure offers a drastic improvement to the appearance of your neck, and subtle changes to your overall appearance.

Hair Restoration: An Innovative Solution for Baldness and Thinning Hair

Shape

Hair loss can be caused by side effects from medication, aging, genetics, or scalp injuries with scarring. It affects both men and women of all ages, leading to pattern baldness, patchy spots, or thinning hair. Many people find this change in their appearance distressing and are frustrated by the lack of effective treatments. Thankfully, there are several minimally invasive and affordable treatments available to promote hair growth or restore hair loss. These treatments can help patients regain confidence as they enjoy thick, full, and beautiful hair once again.

Dr. Mark Bishara is proud to offer a wide range of comprehensive hair restoration procedures, including the following:

 Aesthetic Treatments DeSoto, TX
Laser Hair Therapy

The Xtrallux Extreme RX Hair Regrowth Laser Cap utilizes a unique form of laser light proven to enhance circulation and trigger cellular metabolism in and around the scalp's hair follicles. Unlike the lasers employed for cosmetic skin procedures and tattoo removal, the Xtrallux doesn't cause any damage to the skin cells. Instead, it employs low-level, cool-to-the-touch lasers for hair restoration.

 Facial Rejuvenation DeSoto, TX
Non-Surgical Hair Restoration with PRP

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) Therapy involves extracting a small amount of your blood and separating the platelets and plasma. After being combined in a centrifuge, the mix is then injected just under your scalp in the areas where hair growth is desired. Researchers suggest that the hormones and growth factors in platelet-rich plasma play a crucial role in stimulating renewed hair growth and transforming thin hair into thicker, fuller strands.

 Body Contouring DeSoto, TX
Surgical Treatments for Hair Growth

Many men and women choose non-surgical hair restoration because it's minimally invasive. However, if you have severe hair loss or you have tried other procedures with no luck, it might be time to see a plastic surgeon in DeSoto, TX. Surgical hair restoration procedures are specifically designed to deliver effective results with minimal downtime and without causing damage to surrounding hair follicles. Dr. Bishara from Paragon Plastic Surgery possesses extensive experience in performing these advanced procedures and will assist you in determining the most suitable approach for achieving the best possible results.

What our patients say

Depending on your needs, surgical hair growth options from Paragon may be the best course of action. Common surgical hair restoration procedures include the following:

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a minimally invasive hair restoration procedure that moves the patient's own hair - graft by graft - to maximize the likelihood of regrowth after it has been transplanted in the balding area.

Eyebrow restoration involves inserting single-hair micro-grafts into the eyebrows using a needle at a specific angle, creating a natural appearance customized to fit the patient's goals.

Dr. Bishara's FUT method of hair restoration surgery involves transplanting natural, individual follicular units for the most natural results. The procedure involves trimming the hair short, numbing the scalp, removing follicles, and placing them in the recipient area. Sutures are placed in the donor area, which are usually hidden by the patient's hair. Patients can resume normal hair care after a week, and hair growth typically begins about three months after the procedure.

Temporal Peaks Restoration restores a natural and youthful hairline by recreating the temporal peaks, the areas at the front of the head that are common sites of hair loss. This procedure helps frame the face and define a person's appearance by transplanting hair to recreate a natural hairline.

From the first time you walk into Paragon Plastic Surgery, you'll know that you are in a place that cares about results. As far as Texas high school football goes, it doesn't get much bigger than Duncanville vs. DeSoto this Friday night.

The two Lone Star State football powers are among the top-ranked teams in the state and the nation, and if Friday's game is anything like last year's 49-35 thriller, it could be a potential game-of-the-year candidate.

You can watch DeSoto vs. Duncanville football live on the NFHS Network.

Duncanville Panthers (4-0)

The Panthers won their second consecutive UIL 6A Division 1 title last season, and they have the talent and skill to run it back for the third year in a row.

With five-star Alabama recruit Keelon Russell under center and five-star Oregon commit Dakorien Moore out wide, the Duncanville offense is averaging just under six touchdowns a game so far in 2024.

DeSoto Eagles (4-1)

Back-to-back 6A Division 2 state champion DeSoto finished 2023 undefeated and ranked No. 2 in the national rankings.

The Eagles have already experienced a setback this season in the form of a 57-51 upset loss to North Crowley (No. 2 in Texas, No. 7 nationally), but that may serve as a galvanizing loss that propels them to their third straight state title.

If DeSoto is going to make it three in a row, look for Texas A&M running back commit Deondrae Riden Jr. to lead the way. Riden missed five games last season but still tallied more than 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings will be impacted by a showdown Friday in Texas when No. 4 Duncanville meets No. 17 DeSoto.

Duncanville is 4-0 and has won 11 in a row dating back to last season. The last loss came against DeSoto, the only setback Keelon Russell has suffered as the program's starting quarterback.

Russell is 33-1 during his career and has led Duncanville to back-to-back Class 6A Division 1 state titles. Through four games this season he has thrown for 1,437 yards and 20 touchdowns while completing 75 percent of his passes. The Alabama pledge added 19 carries for 101 yards and another score. For his career, he has accounted for 7,962 yards of total offense (7,297 passing, 665 rushing) and 90 touchdowns.

DeSoto has won three in a row since a 57-51 loss against No. 11 North Crowley (Fort Worth). The back-to-back Class 6A Division 2 state champs have won 26 of their last 27 games.

Atascocita (Humble, Texas) was the biggest mover in this week's rankings, jumping six spots to No. 18, after improving to 5-0 with a 42-39 win over Summer Creek (Houston). The Eagles went into halftime with a 35-7 lead but the Bulldogs scored 32 unanswered points to take a 39-35 lead with 3:04 left.

Cardae Mack led Atascocita down the field and Oklahoma-bound running back Tory Blaylock capped the drive with his third touchdown of the night with 12 seconds remaining.

St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) freshman quarterback Koa Malau'ulu led the second-ranked Braves to a 28-24 win over No. 16 Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.). He became the first freshman to start under center for Jason Negro and completed 24 of 32 passes for 272 yards and four touchdowns.

Malau'ulu led the Braves on a game-winning drive finished with a 22-yard touchdown pass to Carson Clark with 50 seconds left. He completed 20 of 22 passes in the second half for 227 yards and four scores.

Servite (Anaheim, Calif.) went from unranked to No. 19 after handing previously-ranked JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) its first loss of the season. Senior running back Quaid Carr finished with 24 carries for 184 yards and a score. He also had a touchdown reception. Up next is No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) on Friday.

DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) joins the Friars as the only new teams in this week's MaxPreps Top 25. The Stags take the final spot and have won four games in a row since a season-opening 26-10 loss at No. 12 Archbishop Spalding (Severn, Md.). DeMatha has outscored its last four opponents 152-26.

Most people know Byron Washington as “Big Baby,” the DeSoto offensive lineman who went viral last December.

A photo of the 6-8, 380-pound tackle circulated on social media after DeSoto clobbered Humble Summer Creek 74-14 in the 6A Division II state championship game. In it, Washington dwarfs an opposing player, seeming to almost pick him up by his shoulders.

While the attention helped the Syracuse pledge attract college offers, it also made Washington a target of online critics who ridiculed his weight and questioned his abilities.

The 17-year-old is anything but the Hulk-like, brutish figure social media users depicted. He’s mature and thoughtful with his responses, talking more than most teenagers and cracking friendly smiles, though he might put on a tough exterior when it’s game time or the cameras come out.

He’s open about his affection for the people in his life and close with his mother, Brittany Lewis, who said he loves to laugh, have fun, play video games and spend time with people who have special needs.

“A lot of people assume that I’m just this big mean angry guy, but when people get to know me and see me for who I am, they’re surprised,” Washington said. “The internet, they picture me as one person, but when you truly get to know me I’m a great person to be around.”

Playing for nationally ranked DeSoto, the back-to-back state champion that meets rival Duncanville in the game of the year on Friday, means dealing with heightened media coverage and more outside noise than a typical high school athlete.

But the criticism of Washington, or any of his players, still bothers DeSoto coach Claude Mathis.

“People don’t know what he goes through. Everybody has a story,” Mathis said. “I hate the social media part because it always [involves] kids. These are kids. He may look like he’s a 23-year-old lineman, but he’s not. He’s a kid.”

Washington’s story

During sixth grade, Washington grew six inches in a month.

With bow legs and achy limbs, he said he could barely walk and felt sore every time he took a step, often missing school because of his growing pains.

Lewis, Washington’s mother, remembers hearing him moaning in his sleep and rubbing his legs during this period.

“His legs continued to bow abnormally,” said Lewis, who recalled being shocked by his growth spurt. “Once it was beyond about 30 to 35 degrees I was like … this is getting a little too out of hand.”

Washington was growing so fast his growth plates were about to collapse, and he needed to undergo emergency surgery before high school.

“It was a long process,” he said. “A lot of people don’t know [my freshman year] was post-op. I was really getting used to my new body. My legs — they were weak before.”

“Now, I’m feeling better than ever,” he added.

Growth plates are the areas of tissue around the ends of long bones that determine their prospective length and shape, according to the National Institutes of Health.

Children grow at various rates and in intervals, said Philip Wilson, a pediatric orthopedic surgeon and director of the Center for Excellence in Sports Medicine at Scottish Rite For Children.

“Different parts of the skeleton and legs grow at an average rate over time,” he said. “But because kids go through these periods of rapid growth, there can be times where they grow much faster at those growth plates. That can happen in all children, but just like anything in health and nature, there’s kind of a bell curve. Some are way out on the edge of how fast they grow and others may grow at slower rates.”

High levels of activity, such as repetitive movements in sports, can cause growth plate stress or injury, Wilson said. He added that a high body weight or predisposition for the legs to grow at an angle can create additional stress and possibly lead to corrective surgery.

“One thing that can happen in kids that are very big is they can have a slight bow-leg shape of the shin bone at the top of the shin bone under the knee or down at the ankle,” said Wilson, who likened the surgery to putting braces on teeth. “When we have increased weight, that can accelerate that shape change in the knee.”

Washington comes from a tall family. He said his mom is 6-3 and his dad is 6-5, but up to sixth grade, he was an average height.

“It was a shock to my dad how I went from 5-6 to 6-2 in a month,” Washington said. “And then when I was at 6-2, I just kept climbing, climbing and climbing.”

‘Different from the average human’

After Washington went viral last year, he caught the eyes of college recruiters and fans who wanted to see what a lineman of his size, from one of the top high school programs in Texas, could do for their offense.

The three-star prospect, ranked 54th in The Dallas Morning News’ top 100 recruits in the Class of 2025, holds offers from Texas, Oregon, TCU and others. He committed to Syracuse in March.

“They sat me down and showed me things, and they know my worth,” Washington said.

Despite his success, naysayers doubt his potential. Critics have called him slow or said he needs to lose weight.

Weight shaming can be detrimental to mental health, according to numerous studies that cite a higher risk of low self-esteem, depression, anxiety and disordered eating.

“There are more harsh people — I call them thumb thugs — who hide behind social media and do things like saying he’ll be dead by 18 or his knees are not good because they see the knee braces,” said Lewis, who admits she and other family members have defended him in the comment sections.

Coaches want players who can win battles in the trenches, which results in offensive linemen accumulating as much mass as possible.

“We play a position where we’re going against people who are 6-5, 240,” Washington said. “You want to have some weight that you can still feel strong, but you can move at, too.”

A 2016 study by Jeffrey Potteiger, a professor of exercise science at Grand Valley State University, determined that the body mass of offensive and defensive linemen increased by an average of 60 pounds from 1942 to 2011. The report noted that excess body weight and mass can come with health risks, including high blood pressure, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome.

Many offensive linemen lose significant amounts of weight after their playing days. Longtime Pittsburgh Steelers and Hall of Fame guard Alan Faneca, who weighed more than 300 pounds during his playing career, lost 100 pounds and even ran a marathon after retiring.

“You don’t want to just sit around [at] 350, 360. That’s unhealthy,” Washington said. “After, I want to get down, too.”

He said he lost weight in the offseason, along with becoming quicker and more flexible, and his body scans show that he has 325 pounds of dry lean muscle.

He said he’s also accepted a truth about himself: “My whole trajectory of my life is just different from the average human.”

Being different from average has paid off. Washington has blocked for a DeSoto offense that is averaging 507 yards per game and hopes to help the defending state champions pull off a three-peat.

“I try not to look at the negative. I love people who love me,” Washington said. “If you don’t like me, that just fuels me to work harder.”

Big penalty: SaRod Baker takes a short pass to the house, but the big play is called back on a holding penalty.

Bad snaps: We’ve already had three or four snaps that Kelden Ryan couldn’t handle. The latest went for a huge loss that led to a fourth-and-44 — not a misprint. The Eagles looked like they had taken the lead on a chunk play from SaRod Baker, but the drive ends with a punt. First-and-10 Wylie East from its own 21.

End of quarter: Wylie East 3, DeSoto 0. Bit of a stunner in McKinney.

Another big penalty: Howard Fisher IV with a huge first-down scramble for Wylie East, but the play is called back on a penalty. The Raiders are forced to punt and DeSoto takes over at midfield.

Touchdown DeSoto: Deondrae Riden Jr. gets the Eagles on the board with a 50-yard touchdown burst. The Texas A&M commit showed plenty of speed on the run. PAT no good. DeSoto 6, Wylie East 3.

DeSoto punt: Brysan Muller makes a nice third-down stop of his own for Wylie East. Raiders will have it first-and-10 at their own 19.

Abrams making an impact: Keylan Abrams just recorded his third tackle for loss. The three-star TCU commit has been everywhere tonight.

Touchdown Raiders: On third-and-13, Amarean Porter gets behind the defense for an 87-yard touchdown. Wylie East is here to play! Raiders 10, DeSoto 6, 6:13 remaining in the half.

Touchdown Eagles: Really good answer by DeSoto, which rode Riden Jr. and Myson Johnson-Cook straight down the field. Riden Jr. broke multiple tackles on his 22-yard touchdown run. DeSoto 13, Wylie East 10, 3:14 remaining in the quarter.

Riden Jr.: He had six carries for 64 yards on the drive. Riden Jr. is a four-star Texas A&M commit.

DeSoto interception: Ryan Pelly picks off his third pass of the season to set DeSoto up with excellent field position at the Wylie East 21.

Touchdown Eagles: Riden Jr. scores again — this time from six yards out — to make it 20-10 DeSoto. The talented senior tailback has all three of DeSoto’s touchdowns.

Riden Jr. update: 15 carries, 166 yards, three touchdowns. He is sensational.

Wylie East punt: Raiders go three-and-out and punt it back to DeSoto with 1:13 remaining in the half. Eagles take over at their own 35 with two timeouts in their pocket.

DeSoto threatening: Daylon Singleton hauls in a 27-yard gain to the Wylie East 8. Only 11 seconds remain in the half.

Halftime: DeSoto 23, Wylie East 10. DeSoto gets the ball to start the second half.

Riden Jr. stats: The Texas A&M commit unofficially had 18 carries for 182 yards and three touchdowns in the opening half.

DeSoto rally: Eagles trailed 10-6 early in the second quarter but ended the half on a 17-0 run.

Restarting the action: DeSoto, leading 23-10, will begin the second half with the ball. We are close to resuming play in McKinney.

Restarting the action: Well, at least I thought we were close to restarting. I think the last Super Bowl had a shorter halftime.

Eagles ball: DeSoto begins the second half with the ball on its own 23.

The Riden Jr. show: The senior goes over the 200-yard mark early in the third quarter.

Touchdown DeSoto: Myson Johnson-Cook burrows into the end zone from four yards out to put the Eagles in front 30-10. Ethan Feaster had a big catch to set up the short TD run.

Near INT: Jordan Stevens almost comes up with DeSoto’s second interception of the day.

Wylie East punt: Ryan Pelly drops Wylie East quarterback Howard Fisher IV for a loss on third down. Eagles, leading 30-10, take over at their own 38.

Another TFL: Keylan Abrams records his fourth tackle for loss. He has been a factor since the opening drive for DeSoto.

Touchdown Wylie East: Michael Henderson III runs in a one-yard touchdown to make it a 44-17 game, 8:16 remaining.

Riden Jr. injury: Oh man, Deondrae Riden Jr. goes down holding his right leg. I’m surprised he was still in the game with DeSoto up 44-17 midway through the fourth quarter. Let’s hope the Texas A&M commit is OK. He was able to walk off gingerly.

Riden Jr. update: After receiving some treatment on his leg, Riden Jr. is moving around on the sideline. That is very good news for DeSoto.

Touchdown DeSoto: Ethan Feaster catches a 27-yard touchdown from backup quarterback Legend Howell to make it a 51-17 game.

Final score: DeSoto 51, Wylie East 17. The Eagles (10-2) will play Tomball (10-1) or Willis (11-0) next week in the Regionals round. Wylie East ends the season at 10-2 overall.

Player of the game: Deondrae Riden Jr. finishes with 32 carries for 299 yards and four touchdowns.
