PLATELET RICH PLASMA TREATMENT

Platelet Rich Plasma PRP Therapy is a process by which a hair restoration surgeon takes a small amount (1 vial) of a patient’s own blood and removes the platelets and plasma. The hair restoration surgeon then injects them just under the scalp where hair growth is desired. Scientists believe that the hormones and growth factors in platelet rich plasma hold the key to renewed hair growth as well as turning smaller, thinner hair shafts into thicker, fuller hair. This treatment is available for men AND women.

Because PRP therapy uses your own platelets and plasma, there is no danger of rejection. It also concentrates the good cells from your own body into the area of the scalp where it is needed. Platelet rich plasma therapy is ideal for patients who have follicles with hair that has become smaller and smaller over the years. It is also appropriate for patients who want to slow or even reverse hair loss without surgery.

The latest data indicates 3 PRP therapy treatments has the greatest effectiveness for hair growth stimulation. Many patients get PRP once every other year after the initial 3 treatments.

PRP is used for all Hair Restoration/Hair Loss patients, including patients who come in for Robotic Hair Transplants. PROPECIA®

PROPECIA® is available by prescription from Dr. Mark Bishara and is a once-a-day pill developed to treat mild to moderate male pattern hair loss, a hereditary condition that causes receding hairlines, thinning and/or balding on the top and front of the scalp. This product is proven effective for treating hair loss in MEN ONLY.

The active component in PROPECIA® is finasteride, which significantly reduces DHT, a major cause of hair loss, to prevent the affected hair follicles from shrinking any further and allowing hair to regrow.

Nine out of 10 men who took PROPECIA® saw visible results in both a reduction of further hair loss and regrowth of hair. Healthy hair usually grows about half an inch each month, so results may not appear for several months. If there is no improvement within one year, further treatment is unlikely to be effective. However, most men reported an increase in scalp hair within the first 12 months and enjoyed continuing improvement throughout treatment. For some men, PROPECIA® also slowed further hair loss.

There is a risk of certain side effects associated with PROPECIA®, including decreased sex drive, difficulty achieving erection, or a decrease in the amount of semen. Each of these side effects occurs in less than 2 percent of men taking PROPECIA®. It has also been established that inhibition of a certain enzyme can cause the male breast to engorge or a condition called gynecomastia. Patients should notify their doctor if any of these symptoms are present. PROPECIA® can also affect the results of prostate screening exams, so patients should always notify their physician if they are taking this medication.

PROPECIA® should not be handled by any women of childbearing age, as its active ingredient can cause abnormalities with the sex organs of a male baby. PROPECIA® pills are coated to protect against contact with the active ingredient during normal handling.
