As with any toy or gadget everything eventually gets an upgrade. In this case the Robotic ARTAS FUE is the upgrade for the old Strip method for hair restoration. More and more people are opting for a Robotic FUE procedure as there are many things that differentiate it from the strip method. Dr Mark Bishara, the board certified hair restoration surgeon of North Texas, specializes in robotic hair restoration and his practice is a Center of Excellence awarded to very few robotic hair transplants surgeons by Restoration Robotics.
Making the decision to do a strip surgery vs the Robotic FUE can be tough! With a strip procedure your looking at not being able to wear your hair short (unless you don’t mind people seeing the linear scar) as with the Robotic FUE you can wear your hair which ever way you like because the tiny dots are easily disguised. Pain after a Robotic FUE with ARTAS at most will require tylenol or ibuprofen as for a strip procedure most patients need some prescribed narcotic pain medication. Recovery with a Robotic FUE does not have much of down time- 1.5 to 2 days. Most patients return to normal activities 3-4 days after versus with strip it can take up to 2 or more weeks as you will require more time to heal from the incision.
So as you see the improvement has been great and the Robotic FUE ARTAS transplant works wonders. Whats even better is that Dr. Mark Bishara does the Robotic FUE at both his locations, Mansfield and Southlake! Give us a call and schedule your In-Office or Virtual Consultation, don’t let more time pass by, get started today restoring your hair with the Paragon Hair Clinic and with Dr Mark Bishara, MD, FISHRS.

Before you make a decision, it is important to ask your physician questions about pain, residual side effects and the major differences between the ARTAS® Robotic Procedure and manual follicular unit extraction (FUE).
Be sure to download the list of questions to take to your consultation.
How is the physician involved during my ARTAS Robotic Procedure?
The ARTAS Procedure is performed by a licensed physician and surgical staff that have been properly trained and certified on the ARTAS Robotic System. Your physician is the one who creates the hairline design, sets the parameters for harvesting and manages your personalized treatment plan.
What are the qualifications of the ARTAS technicians you use?
At Restoration Robotics, we certify and train the staff on the ARTAS Robotic System. Restoration Robotics also provides ongoing education and training to keep the staff updated on the latest technology developments.
It is important to confirm with your physician that the individuals you meet with make up the team that will execute your procedure.
Does my ARTAS Robotic Procedure require stitches? Is it painful? Are there any residual side effects like with strip surgery?
- In strip surgery, a long strip of tissue is surgically removed from the back of your head and stitches are used to sew the scalp back together again. This can leave a visible linear scar and also make the healing process uncomfortable, or even painful.
- With the ARTAS Procedure, small needles are used to remove thousands of hair follicles from your scalp leaving only small pinpoint incisions. Since the incisions are distributed throughout a broad area, your Donor Area maintains its natural look and the procedure is less detectable. Patients often describe the procedure as virtually pain-free.
What is the difference between the ARTAS Procedure versus manual FUE ?
- Follicular Unit Extraction, or FUE, is a labor intensive procedure that is highly dependent on precision and repetition to harvest thousands of healthy hairs for transplantation. When performed manually, the success of the procedure is limited by hand-eye coordination. Because the procedure is tedious and long, the results can be affected by a person’s fatigue.
- With the ARTAS Procedure, a robot is used to harvest the hair. Robots excel at tasks that require precision, repetition and consistency. Because of the intelligent algorithms and the dissection technique, the robot can harvest hair effectively throughout the procedure. The quality of the first graft is the same as the 500th graft harvested. Robots never get tired.

Losing hair can be quite terrifying! On a day to day many people can lose up to 100 hairs a day. One hundred is not as noticeable considering the size of each hair strand especially because hair is continuously growing. There are many causes as to how we lose hair. Most cases are due to genetic predispositions, hormonal changes and medications.
Im sure you have heard of male and female pattern baldness. These type of hair loss are bound to occur due genetic predispositions! Yes! Family heredity can have a lot to do with it. Not cool, but it happens.
Another source to hair loss is hormonal change! It is known that hair loss due to hormonal imbalances can cause you to lose hair. Pregnancy and child birth are some of the causes of hormonal imbalances as well as thyroid problems.
Medications! Most people may not know but there are some medications that can cause some hair loss. Medications used for depression, cancer, hypertension, and heart problems are some! Vitamin A is another cause to hair loss. Intaking too much Vitamin A puts your hair at risk! Even low levels of iron, thyroid, and low Vitamin D levels can cause hair loss.

BEFORE
AFTER
What to expect from procedure
When consulting with Dr. Mark Bishara, he will explain what will be done through out the procedure and give you and idea on what to expect after your first Robotic Fue. In some cases, it can take more than one procedure to achieve your goal.
Day of the procedure
On the day of your procedure here at the Paragon Plastic Surgery and Med Spa we recommend for you to be well rested. Your Robotic Fue procedure will start early in the morning and take anywhere from 5 to 8 hours. Make Sure to wear comfortable lose fitting clothes.
During the procedure
During your Robotic Fue procedure expect to be sitting in the same position for a couple of hours. The Paragon Plastic Surgery and Med Spa staff will do everything to make sure you are comfortable. Dr. Mark Bishara will have his staff shave your head completely or partially shaving only the donor area. Local anesthetic will be used to numb the areas being worked on. The robotic part of the procedure will then begin, a tensioner will be placed on the donor area to help with the direction and depth of the hair. The robot will start capturing images of the patient’s donor area in order to identify the different angles and density of the patient’s hair. Dr. Mark Bishara will then start maneuvering the robot and the direction begins. Dr. Mark Bishara’s techs will go behind the robot and manually extract the hair. Once the robot portion is done Dr. Bishara’s techs will completely extract all hairs and begin the manual implantation of the hair.
After the procedure
Once completing the implantation of the hair, Dr. Bishara’s techs will go over all instructions to help take care of your new hair and donor area. At the Paragon Plastic Surgery and Med Spa we will provide you with all items needed for the first week. You will be called the day after and at two weeks to follow up.
Advice..
After your robotic fue you want to make sure you follow instructions, the first three days are the most important. Make sure to take pain medications at the first sign of pain to help minimize discomfort. Avoid bending over to much, no exercising or heavy lifting at least for the first week. Avoiding touching your new hair as any rubbing etc. can easily dislodge the hair. Keep in mind that if your in doubt about anything you can always call the office.
Respectfully yours,
Mark A Bishara, M.D., P.A. Medical Director

Robotic Hair Transplants
You never thought that a robot would be doing any type of surgery. Well the time is here! So maybe the robot doesn’t do it all on his own, Dr. Mark Bishara maneuvers the Artas Robot to help get you the best quality follicular units. The Artas Robot is fairly new it was introduced to the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons in 2008 and in 2011 it was cleared by the FDA! It is safe and reliable.
How it works!
Your probably wondering how a hair transplant is performed as it sounds like a lot of work. Well its not, Hair transplantation has gotten easier and faster with the help of the artas robot. On the day of your procedure you have an option of shaving your head or only the donor area from where the hair will be taken from (for men) women we will only shave the donor area leaving the rest of the hair to cover. Local anesthesia is used to minimize pain and discomfort along with valium to help relax. Once ready Dr. Mark Bishara will set the robot to begin the dissection part of the hair transplant procedure. The robot will begin dissecting as one of Dr. Bishara’s techs extracts the follicular units. Once completely extracted the follicular units are checked for quality and Dr. Mark Bishara begins making sites where there new hair will be planted. Dr. Bishara’s techs will then begin the planting process. After completing the planting of the follicular units post-op instructions will be reviewed to help you understand how to care for your new hair. Written instructions along with all of the supplies needed to care for your new hair will be provided. So you see its not as complicated as you thought it would the hardest part is always coming in for the initial consultation. After that everything is just a sit back and getting it done!
