Start 2014 with a New Look

It’s common knowledge that people often make resolutions to take better care of themselves in the new year.  Some get a personal trainer or a gym membership, some start a diet, but a new trend of starting the year with plastic surgery is becoming more common.  Instead of heading off to the gym, patients are headed to the plastic surgeon for everything from injections of Botox to a face lift or breast augmentation.
Adding to the increase in ringing in the new year with surgery, is the increase in gift cards for the services of a plastic surgeon being given on Christmas. And now that the fun — and stress — of the holidays are over, it’s a good time to renew yourself so you can look as young and energetic as you feel.
Announcing a New Year’s resolution can be the impetus for change, but there are other moments in time that prompt people to seek aesthetic plastic surgery as the best choice for enhancing their appearance. According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, common “watershed moments” include someone mistaking you as being much older; entering the competitive job market, where wrinkles are frowned upon; and post-pregnancy blues, when many new moms struggle with excess fat and sagging skin. Your defining moment might be the holiday photos posted on social media, when you realized your image isn’t as attractive as you’d like.
Once you’ve made the decision to rejuvenate, you’ll find many surgical and nonsurgical options including new techniques and classic, tried-and-true solutions. Breast augmentation is the most-requested cosmetic surgical procedure.
January is a great time for people to ‘restart’ themselves after the holidays. Many people follow through on a New Year’s resolution to improve their appearance by having breast augmentation, a tummy tuck, eyelid surgery, or a face-lift. Winter is also a time when we’re bundled up from the cold and we’re not as social. It’s the perfect time to have surgery, so when spring and summer come around you’re in shape and you have the look you want, so you can get out and enjoy the warm weather.
At the office of Dr. Mark Bishara and The Paragon Plastic Surgery & Med Spa, with offices in Mansfield and Southlake, we offer services from Cosmetic Surgery to Hair Restoration to Med Spa services.  We can help you kick on 2014 with Botox injections, fillers like Judederm Ultra Plus XC and the NEW Juvederm Voluma, laser hair removal, and many other laser procedures.  Please call our office at (817) 473-2120 to schedule a consultation for cosmetic surgery or hair restoration or visit our website at www.MarkBisharaMD.com to learn more about the procedures we offer.

Sometimes, even the most rigorous diet and exercise routines can’t get rid of stubborn, excess fat and skin folds that can accumulate in a variety of body areas. Dr. Mark Bishara is focused on helping patients recontour their bodies and enhance areas that may have proven resistant to traditional methods of losing weight. We can give you a tighter physique with a more toned appearance and enhance areas including the stomach, thighs, arms, buttocks and breasts.

If you are considering plastic surgery options to recontour your body, you can be assured that procedures offered are performed in a safe environment.  Our goal is to provide you with safe, effective treatment that results in cosmetic enhancement that looks natural, without the appearance of having undergone plastic surgery.
Please contact our office to schedule a consultation for body contouring surgery.  The following guide will explain some of the options available, that may help you with your specific body contouring needs. For more information on surgical and non-surgical cosmetic enhancement or reconstruction treatments, please contact our practice.

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck Surgery)

Abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck surgery, can eliminate excess fat and skin in the midsection for a more firm, fit-looking stomach. A tummy tuck tightens the underlying abdominal muscles and re-drapes the skin with results you may not have been able to achieve with traditional diet and exercise.

Liposuction

Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic enhancement procedures available. With safe, effective liposuction techniques such as Vaser LipoSelection® here at LIPSG, excess fat deposits can be eliminated in virtually any area of the body.

Mastopexy (Breast Lift Surgery)

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is performed to restore youthful shape and lift to breasts that have sagged as a result of weight loss, pregnancy, or simply the effects of aging and gravity. This procedure can also reduce the size of the areola and can be combined with breast reduction or augmentation to adjust the size and firmness of the breasts.

Post Bariatric Surgery

For patients who have had bariatric weight loss surgery, Dr. Mark Bishara offers a number of procedures designed to help you take this new and exciting phase of your life to the next step. Surgical options such as body lift, arm lift, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), and liposuction can help you get rid of excess, loose skin and fat for tighter skin and a more toned appearance.

Many myths surround the seemingly glamorous world of plastic surgery. But in fact, plastic surgery is a lot like every other medical specialty with highly-trained physicians providing many different services. Here are the Top 5 Plastic Surgery Myths.
#5 Plastic Surgery is All About Beauty and Vanity
Although breast augmentations, Botox and facelifts get all the press, plastic surgery encompasses everything from correcting birth defects such as cleft palates to post-cancer breast reconstruction and work-related hand injuries.
Plastic surgeons care about the functional and overall results after surgery, not just the aesthetics (although we are specifically trained to optimize those, as well). When a patient does choose to have surgery for cosmetic reasons, it is often to correct areas which are not amenable to diet, weight loss or nonsurgical procedures.
#4 Plastic Surgery Patients are the Rich and Famous
If plastic surgeons only operated on the 1%, we wouldn’t have a thriving plastic surgery industry.
Most aesthetic patients are not the rich and famous, but are average people who simply wish to restore confidence, enhance their overall appearance and improve their lives.
#3 Only Women Get Plastic Surgery
Although women have been the traditional customers of plastic surgery, men are turning to plastic surgery in increasing numbers.
Less invasive procedures such as Botox, laser treatments and dermal fillers can give men a rejuvenated and naturally youthful appearance without any downtime and at relatively low costs. These, along with liposuction, are the most popular cosmetic surgery treatments for men, with many men reporting a need for a competitive edge in the workforce as the reason they have pursued cosmetic treatments.
#2 Plastic Surgery Leaves No Scars and Lasts Forever
Plastic surgeons are great at making scars look better, more refined and smaller, but all types of plastic surgery will generally cause some type of scar formation. We can often recommend the best way to minimize scarring, and give advice and treatments on how to make your scar look as great as possible after surgery.
And while many plastic surgery procedures are long lasting and can give you years, if not decades of personal satisfaction, many factors determine how long the results will last. Plastic surgery can turn back the hands of time – but the clock keeps on ticking. Great skin care, less-invasive office procedures, surgical touch-ups, and your overall health are all important to maintain your natural good looks.
#1 Plastic Surgery is the Same as Cosmetic Surgery
All plastic surgeons do not have the same training. Many doctors trained in, and board certified in, other specialties such as gynecology or family medicine have ventured into plastic surgery, causing what is known as “white coat confusion”. Yes, they are board certified – but not in plastic surgery.
Being board certified in plastic surgery means that a physician has undergone years of specific training related to all the nuances of cosmetic and plastic surgery. Patients choosing a surgeon for their cosmetic and plastic surgery procedures should always inquire about a doctor’s specific board certifications.

Shopping malls and airports aren’t the only places that see more action around the holidays. This is also the time of year that merry-makers crowd the offices of plastic surgeons everywhere. Whether it’s because people can take extra time off for recovery, or because they want to be in top form for parties, plastic surgeons struggle to keep up with demand in November and December. However, there’s a few things you should keep in mind before booking your pre-holiday procedure.  At the office of Dr. Mark Bishara- we want you to take time to think about any procedure, whether it is during the holiday season or any other time of year.

Party Perfect
Holiday parties and family gatherings, while fun, can be pretty stressful. You often see people you haven’t seen in a long time or those you’d like to impress. You splurge on new clothes, get your hair done and dissect your appearance in the mirror, your eye immediately drawn to what you don’t like. We’ve all been there. This added pressure leads many to take a proactive approach and seek cosmetic surgery.
It’s common for those considering cosmetic procedures to be motivated by the opinions of others. Though this is an understandable desire, we encourage patients to think about their own perceptions of themselves above all else. Showing up your snobby cousin over Christmas dinner or attracting a cute colleague at the holiday work party might not be the right reason to undergo major surgery. The decision should be about self-perception, with the understanding that a change to one’s appearance is not life-changing in itself.
Realistic Recovery
Another reason many choose this time of year for their surgery is the fact that it may be easier to take time off from work to recover. However, patients should be realistic about recovery times when considering having a procedure done during such a busy period. Though many surgeries only require a few days of rest, it’s important to err on the side of caution when it comes to recuperating in time for important events.
Though you can recover from a breast augmentation or liposuction over a long weekend, it’s normal for patients to experience some soreness for a few weeks after these procedures. On the other hand, recovering from more invasive procedures, like tummy tucks, can take up to a month.
What may normally seem like effortless tasks could become challenging or even painful when you’re recovering from surgery. Patients may be determined to have a procedure done in time for holiday fun, but they should be realistic about how the surgery will impact their everyday lives for a little while. The last thing you want is to be restricted by a surgery that was meant to increase your enjoyment of the season.

Good options for those who want a beauty boost without the recovery are Botox and dermal fillers. At the office of Dr. Bishara & The Paragon Med Spa we offer, Botox, Xeomin, Juvederm Ultra Plus XC, Radiesse…..and soon the new Juvederm Voluma XC. These in-office, non-invasive procedures won’t put you out of commission for important holiday events. Dermal fillers are great for giving a bit of extra volume to lips, minimizing the appearance of wrinkles and enhancing contours. And Botox can be the perfect solution to wrinkles, crows feet and those pesky frown lines. Both procedures have immediate payoff and zero downtime, which may make them a better choice for those with packed calendars.
Other great options for short or no recovery time for the holidays are laser services, including laser hair removal, IPL fotofacials, VI Peel, skin resurfacing, skin tightening and skin remodeling.  You can also do a quick microdermabrasion or facial treatment during your lunch hour to look refereshed for your holiday events.
We all know that the holiday season ends in a new year, full of resolutions. This time causes many to seek change, both inside and out…which can result in packed plastic surgery waiting rooms. It can be tempting to try to squeeze in a procedure in time for that Caribbean cruise or the return to work, but make sure that whatever you decide allows you to enjoy the season to the fullest.
Please call our office at (817) 473-2120 if you would like to speak with someone about scheduling an appointment so you can look refreshed for the holidays.

Start the Season Off as You…Only Better!

If you’re considering invasive or minimally invasive cosmetic surgery this fall or winter, getting it done during this time of year offers several benefits. There are often specials to take advantage of, and if you get your procedures done now you’ll be ready when summer comes.
Timing cosmetic surgery procedures towards the end of the year or earlier in the year allows for plenty of recovery time so that once it’s swimsuit season you’re ready to show off the results of your liposuction or breast augmentation.
This is also a great time of year for men to give the gift of a cosmetic procedure to their wives or girlfriends who want to start off the New Year with a new look for their face or body.
It’s the same reason health clubs are busy in January. They get up their resolve and they say this is the year they want to do it, and, of course, they want it done right away.
Dr. Mark Bishara offers cosmetic surgery for the breastbody and face, as well as a variety of non-surgical procedures, including robotic hair transplants, injectables and laser procedures.
