Have you ever looked at your tattoo and wondered “What was I thinking?” Well there is help with laser tattoo removal. The technology of laser tattoo removal has evolved over the years to be safe and effective for all skin types with little side effects compared to how it was done in the past. Here at Paragon Plastic Surgery and Med Spa Dr. Mark A. Bishara and his staff can help you get rid of that tattoo with our state of the art technology.
How does it work?
Tattoo removal lasers, also called Q-switch lasers, use very short and fast pulses to help break the ink into much smaller particles to be carried away by the body’s white blood cells and transfer it to the liver. The ink is recognized as a toxin in the body and will flush it out through the lymphatic system like all other toxins. Black ink typically responds the best because of the 1064 wavelength that is absorbed by darker colors. Other wavelengths such as the 532 KTP or the 694 Ruby laser are absorbed by colors like red, blue and green. There are many other factors that play a role in laser tattoo removal such as, size, location, the individual’s ability to heal, how the tattoo was done and how long has it been in place.
How many sessions will I need?
Typically with laser tattoo removal it is hard to guarantee how many treatments it will take with so many factors that play a role in laser tattoo removal. Tattoo removal can usually take anywhere between 6 to 15 sessions spaced out every 6 to 8 weeks.
Does it hurt?
Most patients describe the treatment as equally uncomfortable as getting the tattoo. The plus side of that is that it can be done extremely fast compared to getting it done. To help alleviate some discomfort an anesthetic topical cream and some ice may be applied 30 minutes before the treatment.
What can I expect after my treatment?
Following the treatment your technician will apply an antibiotic ointment and cover the tattoo with a bandage or gauze. You will experience a sunburn like sensation and mild to moderate swelling. You must keep the area clean and covered with ointment for 3 days. It is also very important to keep your tattoo out of the sun while receiving your treatments to avoid increased sensitivity from the laser. The area might also form a scab, which should be handled gently. After healing, the ink will gradually fade.
What are the side effects?
Side effects are typically few but may include hypo- or hyperpigmentation, lack of complete pigment removal and a small percentage of permanent scarring.
If you are considering laser tattoo removal, Dr. Mark A. Bishara and his staff can help you get on your way to removing your unwanted tattoo.

Plagued by less than taut skin but don’t want to go the surgical route? From your face and your neck to your stomach and beyond, loose skin can be treated nonsurgically with skin-tightening devices, which offer real results—in record time—making them totally worth the expense. “Skin tighteners are safe for all skin types and colors. They are not long procedures—30 minutes at most. And, when used on the face, they tighten skin in a way that is really natural.
How it works: With a handful of options to choose from, skin-tightening machines, make use of radio-frequency or ultrasound energy, infrared light or direct heat to tighten skin from the inside out. With each treatment (six to eight every one to two weeks are needed, as well as annual maintenance treatments), the skin tightens as new collagen grows via the energy source that was emitted.
What to expect: For the best results, you need to have some loose skin but firm muscles. It can take three to six months for the results to appear. You can’t beat the results you get for the price without having to undergo anesthesia and a recovery period.
The benefits: Skin tighteners are pain- and downtime-free. It’s a great option for someone who doesn’t want to spend what surgery costs or isn’t ready for surgery but wants to fix the laxity.
The cost factor: Skin tightening Treatments (most machines are not first-generation and major research dollars have gone into fine-tuning them) don’t put nearly as big of a dent in your bank account as surgery. A skin tightener isn’t even in the same ballpark price- wise. There’s no downtime and next to no risk.

1. Retinoid creams
2. Over-the-counter peptide creams
Creams containing peptides—short snippets of linked amino acids—can be useful for reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, but they haven’t been shown to work as well as retinoids. As skin ages, it loses collagen and becomes wrinkled and thin; creams containing peptides are supposed to encourage the skin to make new collagen. Peptides are found in a variety of products, from the inexpensive to the very expensive. There are many SkinCeuticals product that can help.
3. Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion uses tiny, fine particles or a very hard diamond-tipped wand to slough off cells from the top layer of the skin and encourage new skin growth. The procedure is usually not painful, though it can be uncomfortable, and it doesn’t require an anesthetic or recovery period; skin heals quickly. But you may require multiple procedures spaced a few weeks apart.
4. Laser skin resurfacing
5. Chemical peels
6. Botox
7. Filler injections
Injections of fillers containing hyaluronic acid can fill in lines and wrinkles and add volume to skin. Hyaluronic acid is a “naturally occurring sugar that gets lost when you age,” and injecting it into wrinkles effectively plumps them up. Juvederm Ultra Plus XC and Juvederm Voluma are the newest and best.
8. Cosmetic surgery
9. Try prevention
If all this sounds extreme, remember that you can start immediately to prevent any further damage: Start wearing sunscreen every day. Lifetime exposure to the sun can wreak serious havoc. When people were younger…they didn’t think the sun caused any bad signs, but now they’re really feeling the effects of it 30 years later.
