Not so long ago, when a person went in for a cosmetic procedure, the entire procedure was kept under wraps as much as possible.  Though people speculated about whether or not someone they knew had had “work done”, rarely were such things discussed openly in public or even in privacy with friends.
But cosmetic procedures have changed a lot over the years. There are more technologically advanced procedures available today that require a lot less of a financial commitment and significantly less recovery time. The advent of Botox and other injectables and a variety of non-invasive liposuction options have made cosmetic procedures much more accessible and much more appealing to a wider range of people. As a result, more and more people are having cosmetic procedures performed and more and more people are also talking about their procedures more openly. at. Dr. Mark Bishara’s office we strive to help patients feel confident about their cosmetic procedures.
Though more people are admitting to having some sort of work done to cosmetically enhance their appearance, it is generally considered rude to ask another person about cosmetic procedures point-blank.  Many people will talk about their cosmetic procedures if they feel comfortable about it, but asking about it considered to be a social faux pas.  These days, patients are aiming to create natural looking cosmetic changes and when people notice the work that’s been done (and come right out and say it), this can be perceived as an insult.  And what if your friend or coworker hasn’t had any cosmetic procedures performed? Asking could make the person in question feel good about the way they look, or it could make them wonder if they need to consider a cosmetic procedure. Either way, you run the risk of putting your foot in your mouth.
One of the reasons why people change the way they look it because changing one’s appearance alters people’s reaction to their appearance.  It’s considered extremely rude to ask a person about whether or not they’ve had cosmetic procedures performed. It is best to let them confess to the procedure by their own volition.
If you suspect someone has had cosmetic enhancements, give them a compliment about their appearance. If that person wants to tell you about their cosmetic procedure, they’ll find an appropriate time or place to do so. Otherwise, you’ll just have to wonder. Remember, cosmetic surgery is not what it used to be and many people do end up spilling the beans. The whole point of cosmetic surgery is to make noticeable changes in one’s appearance and since approximately 9 million people in the United States underwent some kind of cosmetic procedure in 2011, many people feel like it’s counterproductive to keep their procedure a secret.  Rather than be secretive, many patients opt to clear the air and take pride in their renovated appearance. After all, who isn’t having work done these days?

As if looking old wasn’t bad enough, a new study found that people find it difficult to read the emotions of individuals who have wrinkly faces. Researchers at Penn State University asked a group of study participants to examine 64 faces and rate them based on the emotions they perceived in the images. On average, pictures depicting older adults were rated as more angry or sad compared to the photos of younger people, despite the fact that every face photographed showed neutral emotions.
At Dr. Mark Bishara‘s office we provide a wide range of cosmetic procedures to help patients look and feel their best. These procedures are designed to improve the appearance of the face through minimally invasive techniques that provide highly effective results.
Why the Long Face?
The issue may be due to the fact that creases around the mouth and forehead may cause people to look as though they’re frowning or upset. There needs to be more research conducted to verify their findings, but they believe the results of the study are not due to stereotypes people may have about the emotional well-being of older adults.
This is not the first study to examine the link between wrinkles and emotional perception. A previous study conducted by researchers at Humboldt University in Berlin found that younger people had a hard time judging the faces of older adults, and often perceived them to have more “mixed emotions” than similar images of younger people.
An Argument for Plastic Surgery
This study goes to show that people who seek out plastic surgery procedures such as facelifts or Botox injections and facial fillers, aren’t doing so simply out of vanity. There are real issues associated with early signs of aging. Researchers pointed out that the issue underscored in this most recent study could put older adults at a disadvantage at the doctor’s office, for instance, as medical practitioners may falsely assume that seniors are experiencing sadness or depression.
Fortunately, there are many treatments that Dr. Bishara offers that can help treat wrinkles on the face and neck. Many of these procedures can be combined in order to achieve your desired appearance. While facelifts may be the most well-known, others may choose to target the skin hanging down under the chin by undergoing a neck lift. Also, Botox injections can treat wrinkles before they begin to form, while facial fillers can add volume and fill in deep creases around the eyes, mouth and forehead.  Our Paragon Skin Clinic offers many other skin treatments that can fight the signs of aging and help skin show a more youthful apperance, including fotofacials, Laser 360 and laser skin resurfacing.

The obesity epidemic across the United States and the rest of the world has led to many programs centered on lowering Body Mass Index (BMI) for the well-being of the individual. However, significant amounts of weight loss cannot ignore the physics of the real world. Bariatric (weight loss) surgery has caused many individuals to meet their BMI goals and develop healthier lives, but it has also created the need for much of the body contouring necessary from weight loss.  At Dr. Mark Bishara’s office we provide a wide range of cosmetic procedures to help patients look and feel their best.
Following a well-balanced diet to maintain a healthy weight, and exercising consistently to maintain or attain a fit and healthy body are important contributing factors when it comes to an individual’s body image. However, heredity, changes in the body over time such as weight gain or loss, pregnancy, and even aging can result in a change in your body’s proportions and curves that may affect both your body image and self-confidence. Reshaping disproportionate curves or reducing unwanted fat cannot always be achieved through weight loss and exercise alone. Fitness and skin care have little effect on uneven contours or bulges as well as skin that lacks elasticity.
Body contouring surgery can help many people reshape body features that cannot be improved by other measures. Body contouring can dramatically improve the shape and proportion of your body, enhancing your appearance and boosting your self-confidence. The aim of body contouring is to excise the skin for both cosmetic and functional purposes. Daily activity can be bothersome due to frequent chafing between the functional skin and excess skin.
One or more procedures may be recommended to achieve your goals for a more youthful, contoured body. Body contouring goals may be achieved in one surgical session or may be more safely performed in stages depending on your overall health, the type and extent of procedures being considered along with the outcome from discussions and recommendations by your plastic surgeon during the consultation process. Improvements to your body’s shape and overall image may be achieved by reducing excess fat and/or sagging skin and tissue. Dr. Bishara will discuss these and other treatment options with you during your consultation to determine which procedures are right for you.

As the season changes, it’s important to update your beauty regimen and fitness routines. Here are some suggestions to keep in mind:

Put your skin first-
As you’re soaking up that vitamin D, don’t forget to pay extra attention to protecting your skin. You’ll be exposed to more sunlight over the next few months, which means wearing sunscreen each and every time you go out is a must. Remember, UV radiation is one of the leading causes of premature signs of aging!
Get fit outdoors-
One of the best ways to spend more time outside is to switch up your workout routine so that you are exercising outside. Walking, jogging, biking and even yoga can all be performed in the great outdoors. However, you still must take the same precautions when working out in the fresh air as you do at the gym. Be sure you stretch thoroughly before and after your fitness sessions, and if you plan on jogging outside, give yourself at least two city blocks before and after you run to warm up and cool down with a brisk walk.
Stay hydrated-
Drinking plenty of water during this time of year can be beneficial both for fitness and beauty. H2O keeps you feeling great as you sweat it out on a jog or bike ride, and water can also keep your skin hydrated, giving you a healthy glow.
-Now’s the time for plastic surgery-
If you’ve been trying to decide when to finally get that breast augmentation or tummy tuck procedure you’ve been wanting, there’s no time like the present. Patients who are more interested in non-surgical options like Botox or soft tissue fillers don’t have to worry about rushing to the clinic however, as these procedures carry little to no recovery time.
Dr. Bishara offers cosmetic surgery procedures that help sculpt the appearance of the face and body to help patients look and feel their best. Breast augmentation, tummy tuck, BOTOX® Cosmetic injections and fillers are just some of the many procedures Dr. Bishara offers.  Please call our office at (817) 473-2120

Men may not be as open about their bodies as women, but it’s no secret that guys can have their own set of insecurities about physical appearance. That’s why doctors have seen an increase in the number of men seeking plastic surgery to treat their body. One of the most common complaints among men when it comes to body image is the dreaded man boob, or medically known as gynecomastia.
In recent years there have been many reports in the media about the number of men wanting breast reduction surgery to improve their looks.  As men age, it typically becomes more difficult for them to maintain a svelte physique, even if they continue to diet and exercise. Many men develop fat around their chest, which results in the appearance of male breasts, medically known as gynecomastia.
According to a study by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, which released its 2012 statistical report today, anywhere from 40 to 60 percent of men suffer from this issue. Plastic surgeons across the country performed 286,000 breast augmentations in 2012, making it the most often performed cosmetic surgery for the year.  Male breast reduction surgery was one of the top five plastic surgery procedures.
